Results of the European Parliamentary Elections
The result of the European Parliamentary Elections finally came out on the
night of the 26th of May 2014, after the European Citizens had been called
to cast their vote for electing their representatives. Especially feared,
was the participation rate, which in the end surprisingly kept stable with
a light increase comparing to 2009. AEGEE-Europe's reaction on the results
of the elections can be found here and Y Vote 2014 together with Europe on
Track also invite you to tell us how you feel about the outcome of the EP
elections on this webpage: http://www.zeus.aegee.org/ep2014wall/

AEGEE at the European Youth Event
From the 9th-11th of May, a group of AEGEEans represented AEGEE, Y Vote
2014 and Europe on Track at the European Youth Event in Strasbourg.
The European Youth Event was organised by the European Parliament in
cooperation with the European Youth Forum and other partners. More than
5000 young people came together in and around the European Parliament
building for 3 days for workshops, panel debates, fairs, idea labs,
concerts, shows, and many other activities. It was a huge festival around
youth activism and active citizenship.
AEGEE ran a booth at the YoFest, were youth organisations had the chance to
present themselves to the 5000 young participants. We also organised two
workshops in the European Parliament to inform young people about their
choices in the European Parliamentary Elections 2014. The Europe on Track
team was present as winners of the Charlemagne Youth Prize 2013, presenting
the results of the project. A shining moment for our two big projects this
year!

Democracy in Practice: a new project about Civic Education
This weekend the CD house in Brussels was bursting with ideas from a very
motivated group of people. They travelled from Athina, Groningen, London,
and Sofia to set up AEGEE’s newest project: Democracy in Practice.

The idea of Democracy in Practice was built around some central questions:
how does one practice democracy? What are the ingredients of a healthy and
sustainable democracy?

The Fantastic Five of Summer Universities
This year, a total of 3312 SU applicants made their choice amongst the 80
available Summer Universities. Among those, five of them stood out, having
far more than 100 applications. It won’t be a surprise that we are talking
about AEGEE-Cagliari & AEGEE-Napoli’s ‘La vita è bella: Mediterranean coast
to coast’ managed to gather 184 applications, but AEGEE-Peiraias’ ‘Sea
Wars: The Port strikes again!’, AEGEE-Catania’s ‘The treasure island vol.
III – The origins of the crew’, AEGEE-Helsinki & AEGEE-Tartu’s ‘FinEst Way
to Push your Limits’ and last but not least AEGEE-Tarragona &
AEGEE-Valencia’s ‘Touch the Sky Under the Mediterranean Fire’ did a great
job too! The AEGEEan spoke to the organising teams of this Fantastic Five
to find out more about their methods.

#SerbiaFloods – AEGEE-Beograd Takes Action by Fundraising and Creating
Awareness
Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and eastern Croatia have been hit the past
days by a record flooding, and the state of emergency has been declared in
some parts of both countries. More than 100,000 homes have been evacuated
so far, and it has become one of the biggest natural disasters in the
region.

Whereas the media from outside the Balkans have paid little attention to
the devastating floods in the region, our AEGEE members in the area have
been actively involved in awareness-creating and fundraising for the cause.
They are sharing information on social media to raise awareness and
spending their days volunteering and getting supplies for those affected.
The AEGEEan has talked to the president of AEGEE-Beograd, Jelena Stanković,
about the actions they are carrying and how can AEGEE members from all over
the Network contribute.

     Beyond AEGEE
European elections 2014
From 22nd to 25th May, European citizens went to the polls (or at least
43,9% of them) to elect the 751 members of the European Parliament. The
first predictions showed a slight victory of the European People Party
ahead the Socialists. Unfortunately, the big winners of this election were
the far right and Eurosceptic parties, such as the Front National in
France, the UKIP in the UK and the list goes on including parties in
Denmark and Austria.

Diasporic and Migrant Identities Conference in Sarajevo, Bosnia &
Herzegovina

Ever since the 60s, the migration of Bosniaks has been directed towards
Western countries, especially European ones. Even more so after the signing
of framework agreements allowing Yugoslav workers to find temporary jobs in
Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavian countries, but also North
America and Australia. During 1990`s the horrors of war in B&H resulted in
forced migrations of Bosnian population. Now the Institute for Islamic
Tradition of Bosniaks is organizing a conference under the topic of social,
cultural, political, religious and spiritual aspects of the migration of
Bosnian population. Economic, political and forced migration has been
present for quite some time in the reality of Balkan Muslims. Wherever they
went, they carried the experience of their lives lived at the crossroad of
different worlds. So far the focus has been more on economic and political
dimensions of migrant experience and life, and less so on the social,
cultural and religious dimensions.

the team. They may be required to attend meetings of working parties (and
possibly Coreper and Council meetings), draft minutes, translate documents
