Hi all,

I'm Elisa Marchi from Ferrara.
I'd like to say a few things about Su and new members.

I don't think a lot of people leave AEGEE because they find low quality
SU.. in Ferrara I think it never happen.
In my opinion it' s important
to tell new members that the quality of lodging is not necessarily
high... cause AEGEE has much much more to offer than soft beds .
I know that Nicola didn't mean to say that , this is just an occasion for
me to focus that I don't mind to loose members who want soft beds, if I
know I gave them more than a simple holiday.

Sure, if we have an higher quality SU it's great!!!

I must then add that in my opinion, it's really difficult to organise a
SU with 2 meals a day without the fee raising -at least in my part of
Italy-

Again about new members:

I think the real biggest problem is the selection at the SU.
Last year, coming back from my su in Enschede, I met in Bologna a greek
girl. The year before she had made an application letter for a SU,
but she wasn't accepted. I had done the same, but I waited for one year,
and in the meantime I became an active member of AEGEE Ferrara. Result:
in 2000 my application was succesful, while she left aegee and made an
application for a voluntary association.... and she was a nice and
clever girl!!!

Yes, I know it's impossible to change SU selection criteria, and enlarge
the numbers of the hosts in the SUs.....

What I mean is that we have to tell and tell and tell to young members
that there are a lot of non-SU event, send them seasonly and monthly
programs, and free places in SUs.

And, which is more difficult, always involve them in our domestic SU.
Don't say : "the board will do it!!!!"
Some things must be done necessarily by the board, but we have to enlarge
as much as possible their partecipation to the SU, and show them a
positive attitude.

E.g. : the selection to the participants opf the Su is really important.
If you are a new member, it's important for you to listen to the
applications of foreign participants, and give your opinion, and learn
how to do a SU: learn to do the soup instead od find it ready and hot on
the table.

Well , I'm sliding into banal, but...

Last but not least:
in march I received 2 phone calls from north italian people who wanted to
participate to the SU in Ferrara...
What should I have answered them when they told me "We can have european
integration also without going abroad"
?????
Surely there had been a misundestanding about practical life in AEGEE,
but that can make us understand that all SUs are important!!

......So the ferrarian board decided to invite them as SU staff of our
antenna....

Ok, hope that Elisa's thinking hasn't been too boring.

Good work to everybody!!! Elisa
