International Poetry Competition
Castle of Duino
- First Edition -

“Poetry and solidarity, language of the peoples”

•       Presentation:

•       The competition aims at combining culture and solidarity by awarding prizes to young people and promoting humanitarian aims. It is organized by the Association “Club Zyp” (Trieste, Italy) in collaboration with United World College of the Adriatic “Ibiskos Editrice di A. Risolo” and “Serenade Ensemble” orchestra under the patronage of the Prince Carlo Alessandro Torre and Tasso (Castle of Duino) and of the President of Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

•       The general theme of the competition is MEMORY AND MEMORIES.

•       Rules of participation:

•       The competition is open to young people under 30 years of age. The participation is free.
•       Participants have to send only one unpublished poem (maximum 50 lines).
•       Poems will be accepted in the mother tongue of the authors and evaluated by an international jury composed by experts in literature and poets. A translation into English and /or Italian is required. Poems must arrive before February the 15th,  2005, preferably by e-mail (e-mail to [log in to unmask]) or by mail to Prof. Gabriella Valera Gruber, Via Matteotti 21, 34138, Trieste (Italy).
•       Authors will need to:
•       supply full name,  date of birth, postal address, phone and e-mail;
•       submit a statement of originality;
•       provide a statement of permission for the possible publication and presentation of the work to the general audience.
•       Poems will be delivered to the jury without the authors’ names in order to guarantee an equitable evaluation.
•       The jury includes: Prof. Ljiljana Avirovic University of Trieste; Prof. Renzo Stefano Crivelli, University of Trieste, Director Joyce School of Trieste; Claudio Grisancich , poet; Prof. Octavio Prenz, University of Trieste, poet; Prof. Marija Mitrovic, University of Trieste, writer; Prof. Marina Moretti, writer; Marina Norbedo, Chairwoman Alliance Francaise Trieste; Prof. Miroslav Kosuta, writer;  Marko Kravos, poet; Dr. Siegrid Markau, University of Trieste, poet; Prof. Gerald Parks, University of Trieste, poet; Sergio Penco, poet; Prof. Bozidar Stanisic, poet; Prof. L. Trisolini, University of  Trieste.
•       Experts with different languages skills could be invited.

•       Prizes:

•       The jury will designate three winners and reserves the right of selecting other poems of special worth. The three winners will be awarded a prize of € 500 each. In accordance with the aim of the competition to combine solidarity and poetry, the winners will choose a humanitarian cause (possibly in their own country) to which they will devote a part of the prize (€ 200).
•       The prize-giving ceremony will take place on 20th March 2005 (international day of poetry patronized by UNESCO) in the Castle of Duino.  A videoconference link with the winners is currently being considered.
•       A selection of the best poems will be published by   “Ibiskos Editrice di Antonietta Risolo” (Empoli, Italy), Sponsor of the Competition. The book will be presented in many Italian towns in cooperation with the orchestra Serenade Ensemble. The proceeds of the sales will be devoted to charities for disadvantaged children, worldwide.
•       Every participant will be notified of the results by e-mail.
•       A “young jury” composed by students of public schools in Trieste will express its own evaluation. They will assign various minor prizes to the first ten winners.
•       The participation in the competition implies the acceptance of all the rules and regulations specified in the present announcement.

The participants hereby consent to the processing of their personal details both for the purposes of running the competition and for publishing communication in conformity with the law n. 675/96 and can request at any time to have their details wiped from our electronic database.
