Dear foreign languages lovers,

It's summer time. You will be spending your holiday in exotic places or just in new ones that you havent had the chance to visit before. You will hear new languages and maybe you'll grasp some words that would enable you to get along. Beside the great time and fun you will have there, you will also realize how important languages are to ease communication and interaction between different peoples and cultures.

What you can do to extend the nice memories of your vacation is to get involved in the European Day of Languages celebr! ations. Become active and raise awareness among your friends, colleagues, professors about how important and easy it is to learn a new foreign language.

It seems very simple to say these things, however, more difficult to put them in practice.

1. First, contact Seva ([log in to unmask]), our locals-responsible and let her know you want to be a part of the great EDL 2004 team that celebrates languages in AEGEE. Please do this before the end of July.

2. Then gather some friends from your antenna and make a team.

3. Think about what activities you can do to attract many people and turn your event into a successful one. Here the EDL team offers you a wide range of suggestions – choose at least one of them.

Organize
· a language course
· Conferences
· Language fairs
· Mini lessons
· Evening programmes

Or simply
· Spread the word
· Alert the public about the importance of language learning
· Encourage the elderly to learn a new language
· Promote the minorities’ languages and the less widely known ones

4. Take into account some deadlines: in AEGEE, the EDL 2004 takes place on 24th of November.

5. Keep informed and in contact with the organizing team in order to:

- be sent a support letter from the Council of Europe aimed at helping you find sponsors and partners
- be given useful advice regarding your agenda
- be given the Manual for Less experienced locals that might help and answer your organizational related questions
- and, by the end of September, be delivered some promotional materials.

6. Start working!

Good luck and welcome among us!

Warmest greetings on behalf of the EDL Coordination Team,

SeVa!!
