AEGEE-Europe statement - Copenhagen Summit
AEGEE-Europe, the European Students' Forum welcomes the historical outcomes of the Copenhagen Summit and sees its relevance for voicing the visions and ideas of young people. AEGEE hopes that the further Enlargement of the European Union to the Central and Eastern Europe will increase the chances of young people for greater mobility and that students' involvement into the EU decision-making processes will be strengthened.

No national level within AEGEE-Europe structures shows explicitly that cross border cooperation among European countries is not only possible, but also highly profitable and fruitful. The Association with the Network represented in 43 countries managed to overcome the existing barriers and we are happy to notice that politicians see the need of making this big step forward.

We see the Enlargement as a great step towards increasing student and youth mobility, as well as their participation. The accession of the 10 countries will enable more students to study and work abroad, both from Western and Eastern Europe.

In the structures of the European Students Forum Turkey has been an equal participant since 1995. We consider Turkey a part of Europe and we hope that in 2004 the EU will open negotiations with this country..

We also hope that the issue of Cyprus willl be resolved in close future and the whole island will be accepted into the EU.
