The European Role in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Perceptions and Future Possibilities
- A conference for European, Israeli and Palestinian students -
4 - 10 August 2003 in Copenhagen, Denmark

organized by the PIE Project Team of AEGEE in cooperation with Palestinian Vision and the Young Israeli Forum for Cooperation as well as AEGEE-Copenhagen

Corresponding to the conferences in August 2002 in Hamburg and February 2003 in Hofgeismar, the general objective of this conference was to enable students from both parties of the conflict and European students to exchange their views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to become aware of the different perceptions of the 'other'. Although discussions were often very heated, the 30 participants - including 13 students and young activists from Israel/Palestinian Territories - reached consensus on the three workshop issues ('Engines of the Conflict: Security and Fear', 'Refugees and Settlements', and 'Mass Media and Education') and came up with a common statement (soon available at our website). Moreover, the participants elaborated several joint Palestinian-Israeli-European projects that aim to raise awareness of the 'other' in the respective societies and promote mutual understanding and trust.

A three-day Post Event for the Israeli and Palestinian participants was organized by AEGEE-Copenhagen. Articles written by participants about the conference and soon also the documentation (including the statement of the participants) are available at www.aegee.org/pie

The next conference will take place in Amsterdam from 1-7 March 2004.
