; :: Project: European Identity 2004::

Every year AEGEE focuses on a broad topic that reflects its main stream. This topic involves all the relevant projects that entwine with it. In 2004 this topic is European Identity, the main aim of which is to confront us, the students, with the highly debated question of ‘European (cultural) identity’. Is there a ‘European identity’ or ‘European culture’ as such? And if so, to what extent does it differ from national cultures? If a ‘European identity’ exists, does it necessarily have to replace our identity originating from our geographical and political history? All this we try to examine in reflection of Europe’s new face following the enlargement. Through this project, the association will try to gather all possible perceptions regarding the EU and the applicant countries and see how people really envision this long process and its consequences. In order to answer these questions we need to use the existing networks and their multiplying effects in order to raise awareness about enlargement, its implications and consequences for EU citizens through relevant themes.
