An ensemble vision embracing peace-loving states,
sustainability, cultural diversity, accessibility and transparency coupled with
an intelligent critique is the outcome of the Joint Study Meeting organized by
the ‘Youth & Globalisation’ Project Team of AEGEE-Europe.
The charming Italian village of Tarcento, close to Udine
was a witness to European students’ active citizenship and willingness to
constructively contribute for a better future, during the working weekend of
November 6th -9th, 2003.
Within
the framework of the 2003 year plan project “Youth & Globalisation” and
under the joint collaboration of AEGEE Udine and AEGEE Trieste, the JOINT STUDY
MEETING, TOWARDS A JOINT VISION ON GLOBALISATION took place. The UNESCO Club of
Udine together with the Council of Udine and Tarcento acting as Patrons to the
JSM. The aim of this JSM was
to prepare the Working Document which will be the point of departure at the
World Youth Summit on Globalisation next month at the European
Parliament.
The Joint Study Meeting
gave participants the chance to re-evaluate the results achieved through the
five study meetings previously held in major European cities throughout the
summer months. The conclusions drawn at Bayreuth, Paris, Riga, Cluj-Napoca and
Izmir are found in one working document on globalisation, boldly enough
outlining policy recommendations -stated by the ‘active citizens of today and leaders of
tomorrow’ in politics, economics, culture, geo-communications and civil
society.
“Proudly enough, this project is showing
itself to be the truest reflection of active citizenship and the greatest
enthusiasm that there is in AEGEE to get involved in the big ideas of our
time!” says, Project Manager and World Youth Summit Coordinator, Alexianne
Galea, following the presentation of the Working Document for the World Youth
Summit on Globalisation, which defines globalisation to be ‘’an accelerating and dynamic
multi-dimensional and interconnected process that generates intertwined links
affecting all aspects of contemporary life.”. The working document produced at
the Joint Study Meeting can be viewed on www.aegee.org/globalyouth/wys.
