31.03.2004 - AEGEE locals take part in European Week against Racism

European Students’ Forum AEGEE against Racism

The 21-28th of March 2004 was the time of the European Week Against Racism. During that time the European Students' Forum AEGEE actively took a position against racism by involving some AEGEE locals in action events. Human Rights, among a diversified range of goals and activities within the frame of the European Integration, constitute one of AEGEE’s primary focal points of interest and action.

Within the frame of the European Week Against Racism AEGEE marked the participation of our four local branches: Florence and Bologna in Italy, Valletta in Malta and Iasi in Romania organized events, panel discussions and meetings relevant to the topic, involving three countries and about 200 young people
This activity falls into a broader project called "Human Rights and European Identity", whose main goal is to create awareness and involvement on human rights issues among young people all over Europe through various activities on the following topics: Human Rights Education, Young People’s Autonomy and Participation, Local Impact and Intercultural Learning.

Besides the "Action Week Against Racism", other projects of AEGEE Human Rights Working Group are "On the Move" - three locals organizing several events on the Migration issue, "Immigration Project" - another project on the base of migration, which is realized in a co-operation between the HRWG and a dedicated workforce of AEGEE-Europe, and "The Hague IV" in co-operation with the International Politics Working Group, who organize the annually "The Hague day" in Holland, basically combining political, economic and human rights issues.

The target group of all the AEGEE events are young people from 18 to 30, of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. One of the goals set by our Association is to unite and to bring students and young people from all over Europe closer to each other and to find common ground of understanding and co-operation in the fields of utmost importance for the future of youth of our continent.

AEGEE is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary and voluntary student associations, operating without being linked to any political party, promoting a unified Europe, cross-border co-operation, communication and integration in academic environment, and at the same time striving to create an open and tolerant society by involving students and young graduates in valuable projects and discussions over the topics of importance for the communities they live in It is represented in 260 university cities, in 42 countries all around Europe and has about 17000 members.
