European Students’ Forum deciding upon its future

On the 4th-7th November the European Students’ Forum AEGEE held its biannual General Assembly (AGORA) in Torino. 800 delegates gathered to discuss the future of AEGEE activities as well as AEGEE policies and statements.

For four days AEGEE members participated in 25 workshops and several plenary meetings. Delegates came to Torino from all parts of Europe, from over 260 academic centers. Subjects of discussion centered round AEGEE’s policy plan, projects and activities for the coming months. Delegates voted upon project proposals as well as elected their European representatives: members of commissions, working group boards and the European Board of Directors (Comite Directeur).

The new European Board of Directors is as follows:
Ms Silvia Baita – President
Ms Kamala Schuetze – Secretary General
Mr Jovica Karanfilov – Financial Director
Ms Burcu Becermen – Vice-President / Director for European Institutions
Mr Adam Kucza – Vice-President / Director for External Relations
Ms Virag Szabo – Director for Public Relations
Mr Leon Bakraceski– Network Director
Ms Izabela Jurczik – Human Resources Director
Mr Robert Tesh – Projects Director

The Agora of AEGEE-Europe is a biannual assembly, focused on long-term planning and drawing up a strategy for the development of the Association. The outcomes of our policies and projects are thought to influence the decision-making processes and making a difference in our main fields of action – peace and stability, cultural exchange, higher education and active citizenship.

The next General Assembly will take place in Enschede, The Netherlands, at the beginning of May 2005, preceded by another AEGEE Statutory Event – European Boards Meeting in Valletta, Malta.

AEGEE is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary and voluntary student associations, operating without being linked to any political party, promoting a unified Europe, cross-border co-operation, communication and integration in academic environment, and at the same time striving to create an open and tolerant society by involving students and young graduates in valuable projects and discussions over the topics of importance for the communities they live in. It is represented in 260 university cities, in 42 countries all around Europe and has about 17000 members.
