Hi Rainbowists, the Rainbow team is again here with you, this time talking about AEGEE projects! With 100 Summer Universities, 140 conferences, cultural exchanges and projects every year, hardly a weekend goes by without some form of AEGEE activity! This full and varied programme includes conferences, seminars, case study trips as well as a full range of other projects. Today and in the following week, we're going to talk about AEGEE projects: let's start with five of them! In this issue we'll talk about: 1. Summer University Project 2. EuroIslam 3. Shooting Europe 4. Education for Democracy 5. AEGEE20 ==================================================== 1. SUMMER UNIVERSITY PROJECT Link: http://www.aegee.org/su ==================================================== Summer Universities provide AEGEE members with the opportunity to travel and experience something totally new - classes to learn a foreign language, different courses on technical themes to multicultural activities: get familiar with Finnish culture, Spanish history, Greek mythology; learn how to sail or tracking or etc. These programmes, normally last for two weeks. Summer Universities are the ideal way of putting the term "European integration" into practice. Fees are deliberately kept down to ensure as wide a participation as possible, and include tuition, food and lodging. Each year around 90 Summer Universities take place all around Europe, with around 2500 students from more than a 30 European countries; from France to Moldova, and from Finland to Malta. ==================================================== 2. EUROISLAM Link: http://www.aegee.org/euroislam ==================================================== The EuroIslam Project aims to encourage young Europeans to start an intercultural and interreligious dialogue, provide more knowledge about Islam and the Islamic culture and come to mutual respect and understanding. Especially the young generation must overcome differences between Muslims and Western people, start to see what we have in common and creating an enriching way of living together. AEGEE, as a European Youth NGO, has the possibility to start discussions and exchanges all over Europe to find out if this theory is a fact, if there is a possibility for politicians to influence the developments and to change prejudices in Media etc. Upcoming conferences are going to reflect a wide range of topics, such as, "Multiculturalism - Minorities in Europe" in Forlė (in March - apply now!), "Human Rights" in Iasi, and "Value of cultural aspects of religions" in Shkoder. ==================================================== 3. SHOOTING EUROPE short film festival Link: http://www.aegee.org/moviefestival ==================================================== The key motivation for organising the AEGEE movie festival was the wish for a novel approach of not only promoting the idea of an integrated Europe among young people but also involving them in a process of active discussion. Since movies are a very influential instrument of communication, making them in advance and making use of them should be an attractive way of dealing with the issues of human rights, intercultural dialogue and contributions of AEGEE to the European integration. Therefore, this event combines art and creativity with thematic work on common social issues and cultural diversity. The "Shooting Europe" film festival will take place in Karlsruhe, on 1-5 May 2005. ==================================================== 4. EDUCATION FOR DEMOCRACY Link: http://www.aegee.org/efd ==================================================== For the fifth time the European Students' Forum AEGEE will set up a program aiming at arranging full scholarships at the universities within the EU member countries, provided for the duration of one academic year (ten months). The beneficiaries of the project will be students from Western Balkans and South Caucasian countries. The whole project will again be realised by students and young professional volunteers. The programme consists of a regular academic course load at the university, focusing on an assessment of knowledge in the student's field of studies and may also include other course subjects. Additionally, the students meet regularly for seminars on topics relevant to the present and future of southeast Europe. The main goal of these seminars is not only to provide knowledge and deeper insight on the topics presented, but also to foster discussions and to establish a group which could become the anchor for future activities after the students' return to their home universities. ==================================================== 5. AEGEE20 Link: http://www.aegee.org/aegee20/ ==================================================== "AEGEE 20" project encloses all official and unofficial celebrations of the 20th anniversary of AEGEE-Europe. Through media events, social activities, publications and a new website, the project will draw attention to the achievements of AEGEE-Europe over 20 years, the important and valuable role it has played in the process of European Integration, and the contributions it has made in the lives of its members. In April 2005 some great celebrations will take place and AEGEE-Europe organized for this event a special team called AEGEE20 to help who will organize something about this special birthday. Visit the website, in order to discover the planned events for this awesome celebration!!! ==================================================== That's all for today, see you next week for five more AEGEE projects.
