"Shooting Europe!" The European Short Film Festival

"Shooting Europe!" The European Short Film Festival organised by the European Students' Forum - AEGEE will take place between 1st and 5th of May 2005 in Karlsuhe (Germany). The festival is to be a platform for young amateur and professional moviemakers to show their work to the public and to create a new perspective on European issues.

The key motivation for organising the festival was the wish for a novel approach of not only promoting the idea of an integrated Europe among young people but also involving them in a process of open and active discussion. Since movies are a very influential instrument of communication, preparing them in advance and making use of them should be an attractive way of dealing with the issues of human rights, intercultural dialogue and contributions of AEGEE to the European integration. Therefore, this event combines art and creativity with thematic work on common social issues and cultural diversity.

The programme will not only consist of screening movies but also of discussions with authors and invited guests - professionaly connected with the cinema industry. Each day will be devoted to the separate category:
1) 'Where Do My Rights End?' - what are your reflections on the respect for human rights today?
2) 'Cultural Differences in Dialogue' - how do you see everyday encounters of different cultures?
3) 'AEGEE20' - what are AEGEE's contributions to European integration?
Participants and movie makers as well as invited guests will originate from various European countries which means they will represent different cultural backgrounds, different attitudes. This kind of confrontation will allow everyone to see problems, issues showed and discussed in a different light.

Young creative people amateurly or professionally shooting movies can send their 2-30 minutes works till the 5th of April. This is also the deadline for the applications of participants.
