EuroIslam
 
The Euro Islam project is dealing with the theory of The Euro Islam project is dealing with the theory of a modernized way of living the Islam in harmony with democratic structures. It was implemented in AEGEE during the Planning Meeting in Wroclaw in 2001. This project tries to visualize the differences between the different religions and cultures and make them a source of fertile dialogue, instead of division and conflict. Our events encourages young Europeans to start discussions about what Islam is and how Islam can fit into European society.  Their aims are to provide knowledge of religions and the difference between religion and the tradition which transfer this religion into daily life.  
 
 Aims of the project 
 
 Educate young people about the theory of Euro Islam, 
 Provide a knowledge transfer from experts on Islam but also from Islamic students to the Western audience  
Support and encourage intercultural dialogue between Christians, Muslims politicians and European students.  Fight Xenophobia  
 
 Types of activities/events
 
Cultural Nights: Local event, meeting in a nice and oriental atmosphere organised in co-operation with a local Muslim Youth Organisation. Can be a good starting event to implement the Euro Islam project on the local level (in combination with lectures and debates)  ·
Lectures and debates: experts and trainers on the topic provide their knowledge by speaking i. e. about the Islam in general, the Euro Islam, the recent problems/conflicts either world-wide or local, history of conflicts, conflict resolutions, tolerance and respect.
 · Action Week · Conferences on the culture of Islam and on various topics on Islam in Europe (the role of Women in Islam, high forms of Islamic culture e. g. music, theatre) ·
Conferences on Islam and politics (conflicts either on the regional and European level)
· Final conference to summarize the  achievements and to plan and strengthen future co-operations on different cultures and Religion inside and outside Europe  
 
 Current or future events 
 12th -13th February 05: Arabian Nights Gala Ball, Heidelberg:
In 2005, Heidelberg’s annual Gala Ball will be labeled  “Arabian Night’s. Additional to the traditional ball in the King’s Hall of the Heidelberg Castle, the guests are invited to wear Arabian masks and are offered a course in Belly dancing.  
 02nd -06th March 05: EU - Back to tolerance? Multiculturalism in Europe:
This four day’s conference is the big opening event to the Euroislam project. Student’s are invited to discuss attend lectures on multiculturalism, Islam and democracy, Islamophobia, Islamic immigration and ethnic conflicts in Europe. Among other professors and experts on the topics, Prof. Laura Lanzillo, Univerity of Bologna, “polo di Forlì” will have a lecture on her studies about tolerance beyond the bounds of political thoughts. In workshops, this theoretical base will be put into practice. The project aims at involving young people from all over Europe in a discussion about Islam in Europe. Therefore, other NGOs like “Femyso” will be involved in the project.  
12th -19th March 05: Cultural Night at exchange Istanbul-Utrecht-Dbrechen  
17th -20th March 05: Workshop at EBM:
This workshop will be all about the project and its events and activities. We will shortly discuss the topic and list the different aspects. Furthermore the future Events will be presented and also the possibilities for Antenna and Individuals to participate and join as organisers will be discussed. In the second part we will devide into 3 groups. They will discuss the possibilities and criteria for the movie that will be made during this year with the help of HyperMedia University (Italy), the second group will brainstorm and set up the criteria for the creativity contest (photography, essay, arts, music) and the third group will develop a possible 3 hours workshop and training of AEGEE members. 
 29th -04th April 04. The compatibility of the Islamic Religion and Human Rights:
The event wants to discuss the possibilities between Islam and the Western European view on human rights as it is codified in documents of the European Council. To assure communication on an equal level, a special attention in the selection process will be given to students coming from Islamic countries or from Islamic minorities of European countries. One result of the event should be the creation of an international network of Human rights activists, facilitating the communication of Human Rights issues and the organization of future events.
