The Summer University application is
open; all the member of AEGEE can apply until 3rd of May via the SU web page
www.aegee.org/su. This is the most famous and successful project in AEGEE, which
started in 1988, takes place each year and involves more than 150 cities and
6000 students in 30 different European countries. This project has been developed
by AEGEE-Europe as the main tool to promote European Integration among young
citizens.
A Summer University is usually a two-week event organized by an AEGEE local when about 20 to 60 students come together from all over Europe. One of the project’s keys to success is its effort to involve as many people as possible in a multi-cultural environment. For approximately 120 euros, a student can attend a 14 days Summer University event in a foreign country. The activities organised during a Summer University are so diverse that hundreds of pages have been written to describe the impressions of the participants, after a SU full of unforgettable experiences. The event, where they have the chance to meet more than 30 different nationalities, offers the chance to practice language skills, experience traditional food, learn about other cultures and even discover themselves. It includes workshops on different topics such as history, literature, culture, art, cinema and much more. All these factors enable our members to overcome mental borders as well as to broaden their intellectual mobility by achieving a higher level of intercultural understanding.
The project has been several
times nominated as NGO example of Student Mobility across Europe. One of the
most successful cultural exchanges organised in the Continent has influenced the
life of young Europeans for 18 years now.
This summer experience opens the
perspectives of the participants over the multicultural dimension of the
European continent, promoting understanding among students, removing national
divisions, overcoming prejudices and upholding a European feeling. The project
seeks to involve of the participants in an integrated
environment.
