MARCH 2005
European-wide Action Week Against Racism
From the 14th till the
21st of March Europe will celebrate the European-wide Action Week
Against Racism. The AEGEE-Europe and its Human Rights Working Group is
organising an international "Human Rights Fair" during the European Boards
Meeting in Valletta this week.
The fair will be in form of an
interactive exhibition with info stands and a media campaign about human rights
awareness and promotion of activism. The main important stands will focus on the
Case Study Trip Migration, which includes Xenophobia,
Racism, Discrimination and The Bridge project whose main aim is to enable
disabled youth to actively participate in creating and developing civil society.
The target group of all the AEGEE
events are young people from 18 to 30, of different nationalities and cultural
backgrounds. The Fair is expected to be visited by 200 people not only from the
youth section but also from the national and international authorities. One of
the goals set by our Association is to unite and bring young people from all
over Europe closer to each other and to find common ground of understanding and
co-operation in the fields of utmost importance for the future of youth of our
continent.
March
21st was declared as the International Day for the Elimination of All
Forms of Racial Discrimination by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
During the annual European-wide Action Week, thousands of people actively engage
themselves for tolerance, equal rights and celebrate the diversity of Europe.
This campaign aims to highlight the issues of racism, something that happens on
an every-day basis and which cannot be justified or tolerated. The key to
defeating racism is our awareness and unity between groups and individuals who
want to ACT against racism in Europe!
The European Students' Forum actively took a position against racism by involving AEGEE locals in action events. Having Active Citizenship among its main fields of action, AEGEE has been always highlighting and acting for the importance of equal opportunities for every single individual in Europe.
