AEGEE International Observers in Albania

A group of interenational observers were present during the Parliamentary elections in Albania of the 3rd of July 2005. Fourteen of them participated in the event of monitoring the elections organized by International Politics Working Group of AEGEE Europe-European Students Forum in partnership with the Albanian organization Young Intellectuals, Hope and in collaboration with Albanian Youth Council and MJAFT (Enough). The participants were accredited by the Albanian Central Electoral Commission.

The monitoring activities were carried out in Shkoder and the neighbouring areas, in six electoral zones in more than 25 polling stations. The international participants were accompanied by the local volunteer observers from the aforementioned organizations and witnessed the voting process from the opening of the polling stations at 7 a.m. until their closure at 7 p.m. and continued throughout the night and in the morning of the 4th of July with the monitoring of the counting process.

Their activities were characterized by full impartiality; and reports were sent to the Electoral Commission about the norms of compliance with the Albanian Electoral Code. Currently the final report is being drawn, information that will be available at www.aegee.org/wg/ipwg as soon as the counting procedures come to an end. The official results of the elections are expected to be made public at next week.
