The Intercultural Flat Share
Exchange between Canakkale, Enschede, Passau and Sofia

Following our ideals that the key to true mutual understanding is feeling “comfortable” with each other, we let European integration be what it is: a multicultural living together! In collaboration with Take Control and the EuroIslam Team we launched a unique experiment pushing this metaphor to the extreme: the European Flat Share. Muslim and Christian Europeans united under one roof.
Dividing ourselves up into 4-country-flats this exchange was a week full of challenges, magic moments, and laughs clanging to Brussels ;-) 7 days, 7 rooms. Teaching you “European relaxing methods” ;-) on the living-room-day, stepping onto the feet of Bavarian folklore dancers on the party-cellar-day, having juicy discussions on intercultural relationships on the bedroom-day and getting totally crazy in the Aquarium Bar on the bathroom-day, we fed ourselves with our cultures slowly. What the authorities call “cultural xenophobia” we wanted to grasp from its root: Not relying on each other's knowledge , but tackling our private lives, making this the most personal European experience.

Regional Training Course in Heidelberg, 24-25th of June

Our newest drink-- the famous RTC Heidelberg cocktail. It is easy to make, just try it yourself!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 fantastic locals, 13 motivated participants and 9 experienced trainers*
  • the beautiful city of Heidelberg (if necessary it can be replaced by another city)
  • interesting lectures, workshops, case-work and of course a lot of fun!

Take 13 participants from 6 locals and make them meet in sunny Heidelberg (or wherever).  Divide the participants into funny fictive locals.  Then add 9 trainers and tutors. Make the whole group enjoy interactive lectures and workshops, a romantic barbecue night at the Neckar beach and of course a thrilling World Cup football match!

*Numbers can be varied according to the taste of the cocktail-maker.

Local Training Course Augsburg

The Local Training Course took place from 01.07.-02.07.06 at the University of Augsburg and was focused on knowledge transfer for new active members. About ten participants from AEGEE München and AEGEE Augsburg participated in the workshops held by Board Members of both antennae. In workshops like Introduction to AEGEE, Fundraising, Public Relations and “How to run a local” the participants could improve their knowledge for getting active on local level. A nice barbecue on Saturday evening offered time for relaxing and getting to know better the active members from each local.

Training for Democracy

In the framework of AEGEE's yearplan project in 2006 a small but rather enthusiastic group gathered in Budapest at the beginning of July for the 'Training for Democracy'. The event was about seminars, workshops on democracy, active citizenship and related issues and the participants learned how to give workshops, trainings on their on in the future mainly to highschool students. They learned how to work together, sometimes how to stand each other, then how to help each other, so simply, how to live together. One week passed with hard work in the mornings and afternoons, and some fun during the evenings and nights. Everybody went home exhausted, but full of good memories and plans for the future. I am sure that we will hear about these people and their worthwhilw ideas quite soon again.

As one of the members of the Budapest-team I would like to thank all the trainers, the project team members and the participants for being there, making this week unforgettable with their cheerful, always supporting smiles and for making it possible for AEGEE-Budapest to take the first big step within the network of AEGEE.

Experience Exchange European Event, Athina

AEGEE-Athina, partner in the project YnterACT, organised with success the second event of the first year of the Project. The main goal of this event was to give the opportunity to the 20 participants to experience once more and to practice in a more advanced level, some communication tools such as Debate, Forum Theatre and Lateral Thinking. Additionally, there was a total report of the whole year of the project, by exchanging experience of how the project worked in the 3 participating locals (Creative Communication Clubs in Munich, Bucuresti and Athina). Fruitful meetings, creative atmosphere, long lasting workshops, theatre playing, and of course aegee-spirit were there to complete the annual event of AEGEE-Athina.

Sun, beach and see in Tuscany

This event took place on the eve of the patron saint’s feast day (June 16) and transformed the lungarni into a phantasmagoric fairy-tale setting. The architectural details of the palaces – windows, cornices, balconies – the parapets of the river and the bridges were glowing in the reflected light of over 70,000 ‘lumini’ (small glass lamps burning oil or wax) while thousands of lighted candles float on the waters of the Arno. Sham architecture (‘machines’) and a firework spectacle at the Cittadella Vecchia made this event, which dates back to 1688, even more fascinating.
