On the 2th-6th November the
European Students’ Forum AEGEE held its biannual General Assembly (AGORA) in
Napoli. More than 900 delegates gathered to discuss the future of
AEGEE activities as well as AEGEE policies and
statements.
For four days AEGEE members participated in
30 workshops and several plenary meetings. Delegates came to Italy from all
parts of Europe, from over 231 academic centers. Subject of discussion centered
around the 2007 AEGEE Flagship Project "Education Unlimited! - Improving
European Education" which aims to Increase the involvement and engagement of
young people in the European and national education policies and its
implementation. At the same time the last activities for the current AEGEE
Flagship Project, "Take Control, Ways to Democracy in Europe" have been
presented: the launch of the European Citizens Initiative (ECI), of which AEGEE
is a founding member, and the simulation "Model European Union", organised by
AEGEE-Strasbourg, 5-10 March in European Parliament. Delegates voted upon
project proposals and elected their European representatives: members of
commissions, working group boards and the European Board of Directors (Comité
Directeur).

The Agora of
AEGEE-Europe is a twice-annual assembly, focused on long-term planning and
drawing up a strategy for the development of the Association. The outcomes of
our policies and projects are aimed at influencing the decision-making processes
and making a difference in our main fields of action – peace and stability,
cultural exchange, higher education and active citizenship.
The next
General Assembly will take place in Valletta, Malta, at the end of April
2007.
AEGEE is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary and voluntary
student associations, operating without being linked to any political party,
promoting a unified Europe, cross-border co-operation, communication and
integration in the academic environment, and at the same time striving to create
an open and tolerant society by involving students and young graduates in
valuable projects and discussions over the topics of importance for the
communities they live in. It is represented in 231 university cities, in 41
countries all around Europe and has around 15000
members.
