- Editorial

We are in the month of December, for many of us December means Christmas, so we decided to include a typical Slovenian recipe in this edition which you can try out. Each month we will choose a different recipe as well as a different phrase which we will translate in all the languages of the locals which make part of the Dino Team.

I'm sure you're very curious about the next Agora that my own dear antenna, AEGEE-Valletta, will be organising next spring. In this edition we have the first entry into the Diary of an Agora in the Making with some interesting titbits of information that are sure to whet your appetite for more :)

If you're new to AEGEE and you would like to know what will happen to you if decide to stay, then the Confessions of an AeGeEhOlIc could give you some insight into what might happen to you after a few years. This month's chosen local is AEGEE-Nova Gorica/Gorizia, a fresh antenna, small but full of promise. This and more for you to read about... enjoy!

- Diary of an Agora in the Making

Dear AEGEEANS,

A month has already passed since we were part of the AEGEE-Napoli organising team ... hmmm, nice memories indeed!!! Yet, dreaming is over, because the AEGEE-Valletta is already in its second phase, preparing for the next Spring Agora happening between the 26th and 29th of April 2007. Not to mention, sleepless nights, coffee breaks galore and mental distraction to finalise the even minute detail that we can think of.

AEGEE-Valletta next year, shall be celebrating its 10th year anniversary. It was appropriate to nominate an Organising Committee that will work hand in hand with the new Executive Board, to organise special events for their past and present local members, and to host the biggest project ever handled by a student organisation in Malta. Good to note, that the Organising Committee is composed of members, who have experienced nearly, AEGEE-Valletta and its Network in all its forms, till today.
Soon, we shall launch our new website that will have all the information that you would need about, and not only limited to, AirMalta - the official carrier, Post Event details, (that will be held in Valletta), Social Programme details (nearly finalised already) and Hotel Accommodation. Yes ... we have just signed 2 contracts with 2 leading hotels that will accommodate the AGORA participants.

In the meantime, with a daily temperature of 20.1c HI, 13.1c LO, Sea Temperature of 15.9c and 8.46 daily hours of sunshine, April promises to be the best month to host an Agora on our little island.

Should you like to subscribe to our  e-newsletter, visit our website (under construction): www.agoravalletta2007.org

The countdown has started ... in the meantime,  AEGEE-Valletta wishes you all the best for the coming festivities.

Saħħa!!! ;)

- Confessions of an AeGeEhOlIc

It's never so easy to start an article about our selves, describing what we are or what we did.  Especially in an association as huge as AEGEE, when you're active and you spend a lot of time all around Europe, working hard for something you believe in, there will be many people knowing you, some of them appreciating what you do and many others just watching you with diffidence, complaining about your work and gossiping about you.  If I've to describe myself I'm a person who lives constantly across these two sides and I'm proud of it because it means at least I'm doing something and that's why people speak about me.

I spent the last 10 Agoras presenting proposals, having workshops, working for commissions and all this even without sleeping for some nights.  Why?  After a hard working day probably some of you could imagine the best thing is to go directly to sleep; that's wrong, at least for me and many other people I saw working in AEGEE in the last years.  Why?  Cause going to the parties and havin' fun with all the other is energetic, gives adrenaline to continue working hard the day after but first of all makes you human being and make you closer to the new members.

That's what we all should do, show our passion and spread it around and I hope people around me can feel it.  My love for AEGEE is also the reason why I will never get married and I will never find the way to get out, I'm too much addicted to it ;-p

- A taste for languages? A new phrase or word with every NetTG Edition

Carpe Diem  is a phrase used by the Roman poet Horace to express the  idea that one should enjoy life while one can.

English –  seize the day
Italian – cogli l'attimo
Maltese – aħtaf il-mument
Croatia, Serbia, Montenengro - uhvati trenutak
Albanian – kap  moment
Slovenian –  izkoristi dan

"vina liques, et spatio brevi spem longam reseces. dum loquimur, fugerit invida aetas: carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero"

"strain the wine; and since life is brief, prune back far-reaching hopes! Even while we speak, envious time has passed: pluck the day, putting as little trust as possible in tomorrow!

- Local of the Month - AEGEE-Nova Gorica/Gorizia

Nova Gorica is one of the youngest cities in Slovenia. It was founded 50 years ago when the old Gorica remained under Italy. It is a small city with about 50000 inhabitants located on the western part of Slovenia, on the border with Italy. Nova Gorica is famous for casinos and its surroundings are really famous for wine.  In April 2006 we also got our own university – University of Nova Gorica

AEGEE-Nova Gorica/Gorizia is one of the youngest and smallest local in AEGEE network. We were founded in 2004 as first antenna connecting two cities from two different countries – Nova Gorica from Slovenia and Gorizia from Italy. We have about 20 members but only few of them are active. Despite this fact we don't give up and we have still managed to organize some great events. Our first event was at the same time as when Slovenia has entered the European Union - EUrOPEN – Green Party. The event we are most proud of is the Summer University which we organized this year in cooperation with AEGEE-Maribor and AEGEE-Ljubljana. It was a real success and we're already looking forward to organize a Summer University next year. We have also organized  the pre-event called "Nova Gorica&Gorizia – 2 cities, 1 spirit" whose intention was to show people how two cities from two countries can be connected and of course to present to participants Nova Gorica and life in it.

As I have already said I am really looking forward to organize future events and I really hope they will be as good as those until now. Thank you for picking us for the best local of the month, it really means a lot to us and it will drive us forward.

See  you….where? Somewhere in Europe of course! :)

- Food makes the world go round!

Does Christmas put you in a cooking mood? Try out your culinary skills the AEGEE way by cooking something from Slovenia. Potica (Pronounced paw teet zah), is Slovenian Nut Bread, a traditional Slovenian holiday treat.

BREAD
Dissolve 2 1/2 packages yeast (6 teaspoons) in 1/4 cup of water. In very large bowl: 2 c. milk (scalded and cooled) 1 stick butter (butter is better) 1/2 c. sugar 3 beaten eggs 7 c. flour. Mix in the yeast and knead very well (10 minutes). Let rise 1 hour. Don't punch down. Flour a table cloth (cotton) with a plentiful amount of flour. Carefully dump dough in centre of cloth. Sprinkle modestly with flour. Start with a rolling pin to flatten gently. Then, with your hands, reach under the dough and stretch it out until paper thin and measure 3 1/2 feet by 4 1/2 feet. Cut all four edges off so they are straight.

FILLING
Grind 1 1/2 pounds of walnuts or pecans. Make them quite fine. In saucepan warm: 3/4 c. Carnation milk 1 stick butter (warm until butter melts). Add half the nuts to this butter mixture and bring to full boil. Remove from heat and add three eggs, one at a time. Spread mixture on dough very carefully. Mix other 1/2 of walnuts with 1 1/2 cups sugar. Sprinkle that over dough. Start rolling dough from the longer side. Pick up cloth and let it do the rolling. Let rise 25 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. (Use greased cookie sheets.) Potica will look like a pinwheel on the end and like a worm on the cookie sheet. Keep all in one piece.
