“Education Unlimited” launched in
Stuttgart!
22 members from all around Europe gathered in the snow-white
Stuttgart to celebrate the official starting of our Flagship Project
2007. The four days event started on January 25th with a glamorous
opening ceremony that covered all expectations: official speeches
followed by piano music and a great Swabian dinner buffet. The
following 3 days gave the great opportunity to the participants to
get an overview of the Bologna Process, its development and
implementation so far, as well as to get all information about the
Flagship Project. During numerous presentations and workshops first
questions and statements were raised that will be implemented in the
further development of the project. All outcomes are already online. Hosting
the president Theijs Van Welij as well as the project manager Asia
Piskunowicz AEGEE welcomed to the round table to set a signal that
we are actively back in the field of higher education. One of the
highlights was the discussion with representatives from ESIB,
AIESEC, JADE and other student NGOs about the effects of the Bologna
Process on our voluntary work. The dedicated members of
AEGEE-Stuttgart challenged their first European conference
satisfying all tastes and demands. Several parties with Champaign
and crazy 600 international students, loads of food and drinks as
well as their endless hospitality and kindness were more than just a
side effect. This kick-off was definitely the starting point for
more European events by AEGEE-Stuttgart! |
The building of a team: Freezing Hot
NY in Estonia
A bunch of environmentally concerned AEGEEans met for celebrating
New Year in Estonia. We were warmly received by AEGEE-Tartu, and had both parties
and lectures there. We spent New Year’s Eve in a remote wooden house
with its traditional smoke sauna, and it was just the best place for
the all night long party. Then we spent several days in a cosy
hostel, surrounded by wild nature at Sooma National Park, discussing
how to make AEGEE more sustainable. We got to join a great list of
ideas together with proposals about how to make them possible; and
during that time shared, we managed to develop a great team spirit.
We ended up with a great farewell party in nice old Tallinn, but
nothing ended up that night. We are still working, and you’ll hear
more news about us in this near future. Stay tuned! |
Galaball in the Castle
The 13th Gala ball took place in Heidelberg castle between 20th
and 21st January. 350 people from all over
Europe came to celebrate a big party. This year’s motto was:
“Criminal Tango – All across Europe”. It was very nice, that a lot
of people were dressed up according to our motto! Highlights of the
evening were a professional tango dance performance and a big
tombola with great prizes. We had a lot of fun, dancing till morning
and the AEGEE-Spirit was everywhere perceptible.

Bitola Winter Week
On the 25th January 2006 AEGEE-Bitola held it's first European
event called Bitola Winter Week. We had participants from Turkey and
Azerbaijan. Unfortunately there was no snow
for this time of year, but we had a wonderful time together. This
event took place in the city of Bitola in south-west region of
Macedonia. We visit “Sirok sokak” the old Bitola’s main street, Old
Clock Tower and many more monuments. Every night there were parties
all night long in urban night clubs. This event was very
important for us, for AEGEE-Bitola because now we will become an
AEGEE Antenna. Someone call it Europe, we call it home!

Cultural Aspects of Ukraine's
Eurointegration
During the 6th-13th of January Aegee-Kyiv organized an event that
took place in three different Ukrainian cities. Participants had the
opportunity to celebrate Christmas the second time this
year, but this time in Ukrainian style within really big Aegee
family. Also they visited Ivano-Frankivsk, where the conference
regarding Euro integration took place & had the chance to
experience the romance of L’viv with its amazingly beautiful
architecture. During this event we had a lot of activities, such as
Ukrainian language course, singing of Ukrainian songs and also
dancing traditional dances during the Christmas celebration. Not be
forgotten the 3 cities’ tours, the relaxing sauna-party &
clubbing!

Water - Blue Gold
Water is present in our daily lives; it is even indispensable to
life. Nevertheless, a lot of drinking water is wasted. During the conference "Water
- Blue Gold. Challenges to a Sustainable Future" 15 young Europeans
gathered to discuss global problems related to water, such as water
privatisation and sustainability. Besides lectures, workshops
and a panel discussion, the participants visited the Lake Constance
Water Supply in Sipplingen, which supplies up to 4 million people
with fresh water every day. Of course, AEGEE-Konstanz also offered a
varied social programme including a European night and a city tour.
The conference took place from January 12-14, 2007 in Konstanz, Lake
of Constance (Germany).

Leon & Oviedo New Years Event in
North Spain
7 days full of diversion, joy, laughter, cultural visits... of
different activities, that began with a popular race in Leon with 6
thousand participants. Then some days of culture and party in a city
that submerges at medieval time, since the Romans founded it, followed. The
celebration of the New Year in front of the cathedral, eating the
traditional grapes, and an excursion to Astorga, city of the
chocolate, visiting the Nativity of Folgoso and walking between the
medieval streets of Castrillo of the Polvazares filled in the rest
of the week. The change arrived in Asturias, seeing the
Cantabrian Sea in Gijón. They visited Cabo Peñas, the most Nordic
point of the Iberian Peninsula and they enjoyed some days in the
capital of the Principality of Asturias, city of Fernando Alonso, of
the cider, where “Reyes Magos” granted gifts to all the participants
and enjoyed a Traditional Parade and typical games of the North of
Spain. Without a doubt, it was a good and funny event. |
Russian Winter. Mission is
POSSIBLE!
*Disclaimer*: Before reading the following info you have to close
every door, window, table, eyes and other stuff if you have any.
Report: 17 special aegeents under
colours of AEGEE law came to Moscow. The secret base of aegeents
nicknamed “hostel” was allocated in the strategic point – in the
very heart of Moscow – within walking distance from Kremlin and it’s
agents - Mr. Lenin and Mr. Putin. Aegeents were supposed to discover
the mystery of the real Russian
winter and it’s traditions… Due to the high secret level and
complexity of the mission, all the snow was hidden and only few
aegeents managed to find it during the Old New Year night! Anyhow
they managed to find out secrets of Moscow metro, info about Russian
code called “Cyrillic alphabet” and try Russian water called
“vodka”. Aegeents fulfilled successfully their
secret mission and each of them got KGB identity card with their
photo made by our local aegeents!
This text shall be erased after reading due to its high
secret level of the information mentioned above.

IPWG BOARD and Members MEETING in
Mannheim, Germany
Between the dates 12-14 January 2007, IPWG board met with IPWG
members in Mannheim. The meeting was very productive in terms of
discussions about IPWG's current situation and its events.
First of all, a SWOT analysis
of IPWG was made, together with that suggestions to improve were
discussed. Moreover, PR and HR strategies were formalized. Details
of upcoming events (IPWG goes Den Haag, Model EU, Mediation
Training, IPWG10-Conference) were shaped. We are very happy that
members of our Working Group were involved in the forming of IPWG's
long term strategy, so we would like to thank everyone who was

Golden Fox - AEGEE ski week 2007
It never happened before. This year traditional AEGEE-Maribor
event Ski Week 2007 became Ski Week 2007 Wanna Be. Unexpected
weather conditions pushed the organisers to change the programme,
which contained 7 days of skiing, completely. But this
didn’t make the event less attractive. 26 participants from 16
countries came on February 21st to Maribor, to get to know the city,
its culture, history and day and night life spirit. On
the 2nd day in Slovenia's second biggest city the program moved
to Ptuj, the oldest city of the country. After discovering the
history of this part of Slovenia participants took the day off
in the spa relaxing in the water and sauna. To make the day
even better it started snowing. The last two days took place in
Pohorje hill, where everybody got what they came for: white nature
full of snow, perfect for snow fights and skiing. With a small
help of nature the event finished with a style Ski Week
deserves.

Trainings in Vilnius
Since 2006 summer when Vilnius joined AEGEE Europe it had it
first event: 3-day local training course. Four AEGEE-Eschede,
AEGEE-Warszawa and AEGEE-Tartu members shared their experience of
the beginning of their locals, presented AEGEE-Europe
activities, talked about project writing, human resources,
fund-raising, Bologna process, all the most important things all
members should know to make first but strong steps in AEGEE.
Vilnius members created their 5-year vision and next year
activity-plan, including expanding the number of members by making
information campaign all over Vilnius and then making a party, as
well as co-operation with Vilnius universities. “Find Lithuania by
Bike” is also one of the events AEGEE-Vilnius will try to organize.
All the participants enjoyed their time in the capital of Lithuania
and Vilnius members are determined to make AEGEE-Vilnius a strong
local and show their city to Europe.
