§             From your Netcommie

Dear AEGEEeans,

Waiting for the Spring Agora Valletta 2007, here comes another appointment with Your Net-TG, directed by the Sub-Pirate Patricia Borg.  It's the Voice of the locals, where you can send us your articles about every kind of topic that you desire to discuss but also every nice suggestion or idea that you want to share with all your neighbours.

I'm back just few days ago from the EBM Gliwice where, among the other things (workshops organized by the WGs & the Project teams, overview and evaluation of the Strategic Plan, etc..) was introduced the 2007 Flagship Project of AEGEE "Education Unlimited!" - Improving European Education and a new strong collaboration between AEGEE and BEST has been signed.

It's the time also for the Spring Network Meetings around all over Europe (for our Team until now there isn't a confirmation of any local organizer but maybe something is happening….) and for the SU project during its 20th Anniversary!!  The SUCT is looking for additional FR in order to organize a great celebration of this Anniversary and I suggest to every one of you to join the "1-minute-FR" campaign in order to support this really important Project.

Last but not least, at the EBM  5 new Contacts have been approved by the CD and I'm very proud to announce that by now the Croatian Network has a new contact that we're working to updgrade to CA in Valletta: ZADAR, a pearl of the Adriatic Sea!!!! I want to thank for this great result the SubCommie-Pirate Tanja Domjan & the local of Rijeka for its support!!  And other contacts are going to be approved soon….Get in touch!!  Don't hesitate to contact me for all especially now that we should organize a great SU-PR campaign to recruit more and more members for our Family!!!  Go AEGEE Go!!!!!

AEGEEfully Yours,

Your Netcommie

Dino

§             Diary of an AGORA in the Making

Welcome to the second update....  the AGORA-project is driving us all nuts down here, on the lovely sacred island of Melita!!  (the old word for Malta)

The first thing you have to do is APPLY for the AGORA from www.aegee.org/statutory and if you want also for the Pre Event and Post Event from www.aegee.org/events

By now, we have updated the network with all the options and offers for travelling to Malta.  AirMalta, our official AGORA carrier is offering 15% discount on scheduled flights, departing from ALL major European cities.  You need a special password and login to purchase online with the AEGEE discount.  Please remember that AirMalta has a similar price structure to a low-cost carrier, the likes of Ryanair, German Wings, and many others, who are now operating to/from our island.

Moreover, there are 2 other options to travel to Malta...  and this is by sea, from Genoa with Grimaldi Ferries or Pozzallo/Catania with Virtu Ferries. For all travel information or enquiries, ask Patricia, our Incoming Coordinator, by e-mail: [log in to unmask]  All the information will be uploaded shortly on the official website - www.agoravalletta2007.org

In the meantime, the Marketing & PR Team has launched officially, the AGORA-Valletta HI5 Fan Club.  Get networking now, by subscribing to the AGORA-Valletta Fan Club group, by visiting http://agoravalletta2007.hi5.com Moreover, see who is behind the AGORA project, and visit the Album, where special photos about our Islands have been uploaded.

§             Local of the Month: AEGEE-Teramo

AEGEE landed in Teramo (Central Italy, not really far from Roma), thanks to the efforts of Oleg Veremienko, one student of Masters in Criminology, in 2002.  Oleg, already President of AEGEE-Kiev, founded in Teramo an ANTENNA, after going with some students to the AGORA in Amsterdam, introducing their candidacy which was approved and made official in the document of adhesion signed  5th May 2002 by the President of AEGEE-Europe Pedro Panzo Torìo.

A very good thing happened that day since from then students from Teramo have been given the possibility to make use of the opportunities offered by AEGEE-Europe.  Even though our antenna is very young, the activities that we have organised have not been of little account).

Currently AEGEE-Teramo is in a phase of renewal and increase, absolutely normal after the phase of start-up, and with the dynamism that has always characterized it, also at European level, it's trying to cut important spaces between the Antennas of AEGEE-Europe.

§             Food makes the world go round!  The monthly AEGEE recipe

"Papal" fettuccine
Fettuccine alla "papalina"

Pride of the restaurants of the Trastevere region in Rome, however contrary to the saying that Roman cooking is usually very simple and economic, this dish is rather expensive to prepare.  Home made fettucine (ribbon-shaped pasta) would evidently be ideal, but you may also buy the fresh or dried ready made egg pasta of a very good quality, calculating about 100g per person.  For 6 persons, fry half a sliced onion in some butter and cook 200g of chopped ham, slat, and pepper.  Break 3 eggs into a bowl and mix in 3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese, boil the fettucine until "al dente" – chewy-then drain and mix straightaway with the egg mixture until the egg thickens around the pasta. Now add the peas and ham, finish by adding a few knobs of butter and serve with a generous amount of parmesan cheese and a good sprinkling of freshly ground pepper.

§             AEGEE Project Highlight - The EDL

The European Day of Languages was born in 2001, the year named by the Council of Europe as the European Year of Languages, and since then a lot of things were done and always with the same enthusiasm that distinguish the people involved in it.

Languages may be the most interesting theme for an AEGEE member and that's why the locals involved in the project are growing every year more and more.  Last November about 30 AEGEE-locals decided to organize the action day of the European Day of Languages.  There are no strict guidelines that force a local to organize it in a certain way, the success of the action day depends on the ideas that AEGEE members have.  Some do it in the classic way, organizing language lessons, conferences, or debates, some others organizing funny evenings playing games related to languages or involving the whole shops situated in a street.  I think this is the main aim of an AEGEE project: all locals organize an event on that theme, of course cooperating with the project team, always ready to help weak locals giving them new input.

To join a project means to work for what we believe in!  Is there anything more beautiful than working for what we like?!?

In EDL, as in the other AEGEE projects, the dedication of the team allowed it to develop many other sub-projects, such as the Travel Dictionary, the Teacher Exchange Programme, and the Best Teaching Methods Manual.  The TD is a useful dictionary actually translated in 30 languages that you can find on our website.  The TEP is a database of which one of the aims is to help AEGEE locals in organizing language courses.  The last born in the EDL is the BTMM, still in planning phase; its aim is to give good notions of teaching methods.

You can find more news about EDL and its projects on the website: www.aegee.org/dayoflanguages

Greetings from the language world,
Ugo Simeoni
Project Manager EDL
