From Mask Till Dawn 2008 !!!
Carnival is traditional event in Rijeka and its surroundings and takes place every year at the end of the winter. Since 1995 Rijeka is a member of the Federation of European Carnival Cities (FECC).The carnival parade which is held in the city centre gathers 150 masked groups from 15 countries and more than
100.000 spectators every year. Carnival festivities take place in Rijeka since the Middle Ages. The carnival customs of Rijeka are a particular blend of European middle class carnivals, foremost Venetian and Austrian carnivals, and elements of old Slavic folklore and mythology. As legend has it, the boisterous merry-making of the masks will drive away the forces of evil, while evoking the arrival of spring and celebrating the creation of new life.

- presentation of carnival history - explaining legends about carnival, traditional costumes, its significance for Rijeka and its region
- sightseeing - showing famous Rijeka monuments, churches, the tower of Trsat
- trip to Matulji - exhibition of traditional masks,dances,tasting traditional drinks and desserts
- participation in the international carnival parade.
