AEGEE-Ankara is at European Parliament!

The Understanding Europe Project, ongoing since 2005, organized by AEGEE-Ankara
(European Students’ Forum-Ankara) is going to conclude with a Closing Ceremony at
the European Parliament on May 14th 2008, hosted by the Member of European
Parliament, Vural Öger.

Greatly supported by the Member of European Parliament, Vural Öger, the
Understanding Europe Project will end with a Closing Ceremony at the European
Parliament on May 14th 2008. Project members and the high school students trained
within the course of project are going to be in Brussels to share the outcomes of the
project with European public. A number of diplomats, bureaucrats, officials, pressmen
and NGO representatives are expected to be present in the Ceremony.

The Understanding Europe Project was started by AEGEE-Ankara in 2005. With the
financial support of the British Embassy- Ankara, the European Union Communication Group
(ABĐG), Öger Tour and TEMSA; the Understanding Europe Project has reached out high
school students from seven cities representing seven different geographical regions of Turkey,
with the motto “Tell Me About (Your) Europe”. In order to raise the awareness of high school
students and to train them as active citizens, Mobile Trainings were organized. Moreover,
students from all over Turkey were gathered together in Ankara for the first Summer Camp
on Active Citizenship for high school students in Turkey. The implementation stage of the
project came to an end with a visit to European Institutions in Brussels in July 2007.

AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l'Europe), one of the biggest
interdisciplinary student associations in Europe; is represented by 15.000 students, active in
251 cities all around Europe, which presents great cultural variety. AEGEE is an
economically and politically independent, secular, non-profit organization. AEGEE-Ankara,
established in 1995, is one of the most active locals of the AEGEE network. AEGEE-Ankara
has made itself known through many local, national and international events organized.
