RENEWABLE ENERGY SUSTAINING OUR FUTURE

AEGEE encourages European youth to contribute to sustainable energy
consumption in Europe

European Students Forum – AEGEE – is presenting its Flagship Project
2008/2009 to Brussels stakeholders with a Youth Solar Days conference on
renewable energy and the ways young people can contribute to increased
responsibility in energy use in Europe.

Sustaining our Future is a two years long project initiated and carried out
by multicultural team consisting of young people from different parts of
Europe, aiming to raise knowledge and involvement of European youth and
their communities in the topic of sustainable development.

As active citizens at the European scale, members of AEGEE see this topic as
important part towards creating shared sense of European identity and
integration and feel that as representatives of future generation it is our
responsibility to take active role in it.

The project consists of different local and European level activities
focusing of following components: European Citizenship, Education for
Sustainable Development, sustainable living solutions and consumption
patterns and social responsibility of European youth organisations. It will
be launched with a Europe-wide action day on June 5 - the World Environment
Day.

Youth Solar Days conference will offer a preview on AEGEE stands and future
actions in the field of sustainable living solutions. It will take place in
Brussels on May 15 – 17 and bring young people together with experts and
professionals to answer the questions about current momentum for renewable
energy in Europe – How is it changing economy and people's lives, how is EU
reacting to this changes and how can (young) people contribute to the
process – from small things they can do in their homes to reaching out to
decision-makers?

Conference will be hosted by Renewable Energy House, European center for
renewable energy science, industry and market, with key-note speeches from:

Adel El Gammal, Secretary General, the European Photovoltaic Industry
Association - EPIA

Jan Geiss, Managing Director, the European Forum for Renewable Energy
Sources - EUFORES

Lucie Tesnières, Policy Adviser, the European Renewable Energy Council –
EREC.

Event will then move to Brussels Jubel Park for European Solar Days
celebrations, with displays of solar energy technologies, outdoor fair,
catering stands, Solar Café, street entertainment and evening concerts.

The event is sponsored by European Photovoltaic Industry Association – EPIA.
