Youth and MEPs change direction of EU Education policy-making
The Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament has adopted on April 27 the “Report on key competences for a changing world: implementation of the Education and Training 2010 work programme”. Important targets for the education work of the European Union have been set by the Members, including Global Education, Students' Rights, Non-Formal Education and Mobility.
The European Youth Forum welcomes the Report, that evaluates Education and Training 2010 programme and gives recommendations for further policy action to promote transversal key competences in the field of Education.
The report illustrates the crucial challenges for education and training in Europe, indicating that the direction to follow is “a reform of education towards a learner centred holistic education system which prepares young people for being happy, active global citizens which are ready to enter the labour market”.
“This is an important change from the technocratic approach used by the European Commission so far and clearly reaffirming the values of education,” said Tine Radinja, President of the European Youth Forum. “Giving increasing importance to Global Education, Students' rights and the recognition of Non-Formal Education as a complementary educational field in policy making,” he continued, “is key to ensure that young people are best equipped to respond to the challenges of a globalised world”.
The European Youth Forum worked closely with the Rapporteur of the Report, Maria Badia I Cutchet MEP (S&D, Spain) and with Malika Benarab-Attou MEP (GREENS, France) to improve the report.
Together with its member organisations European Students’ Union (ESU), the Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU), European Students’ Forum (AEGEE-Europe) and Erasmus Student Network (ESN), the European Youth Forum is the voice of all young learners and students in Europe and works constantly to actively involve young people in shaping education policies.
The Report will be now submitted to the coming Plenary Session of the European Parliament for its final adoption.

Les jeunes et les MPE changent la direction de l’élaboration politique sur l’éducation de l’UE
La Commission Culture et Education du Parlement européen a adopté le 27 avril le Rapport « Les compétences clé dans un monde en mutation : mise en œuvre du programme de travail Education et Formation 2010 ». Les Membres ont établi d’importantes cibles pour le travail de l’Union européenne en matière d’éducation, y compris l’éducation globale, les droits des étudiants, l’éducation non formelle et la mobilité.
Le European Youth Forum se réjouit de ce rapport qui évalue le programme Education et Formation 2010 et formule des recommandations pour une nouvelle action politique en vue de promouvoir les compétences transversales clé dans le domaine de l’éducation.
Le rapport illustre les défis essentiels pour l’éducation et la formation en Europe, indiquant que la direction à suivre est « une réforme de l’éducation vers un système éducatif holistique centré sur l’apprenant qui prépare les jeunes à être des citoyens du monde, heureux, actifs, et à entrer dans le marché du travail. »
« Il s’agit d’un changement important de l’approche technocrate utilisée par la Commission européenne jusqu’à présent vers une claire réaffirmation des valeurs de l’éducation », a déclaré Tine Radinja, Président du European Youth Forum qui a poursuivi en ces termes : « Le fait d’accorder une importance accrue à l’éducation globale, aux droits des étudiants et à la reconnaissance de l’éducation non formelle comme un domaine pédagogique complémentaire dans l’élaboration politique est absolument primordial pour garantir que les jeunes soient idéalement équipés pour répondre aux défis d’un monde globalisé ».
Le European Youth Forum a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec la personne chargée du Rapport, la MPE Maria Badia I Cuchet (S&D, Espagne) et avec la MPE Malika Benarab-Attou (VERTS, France) pour améliorer le rapport.
Appuyé par ses organisations membres l’Union européenne des Etudiants (ESU), le Bureau d’Organisation des Syndicats Lycéens d’Europe (OBESSU), le Forum européen des Etudiants (AEGEE-Europe) et Erasums Student Network (ESN), le European Youth Forum incarne la voix de tous les jeunes apprenants et étudiants en Europe, et il travaille d’arrache pied pour activement impliquer les jeunes dans la conception des politiques sur l’éducation.
Le Rapport sera soumis à la prochaine session plénière du Parlement européen pour son adoption finale.
