Discussions on Youth Mobility with the Eastern countries inside the European Parliament

Yesterday, our Eastern Partnership Project has organised the conference “Youth mobility – the Key to Democratic Reforms in the Eastern Partnership Countries” in cooperation with  Paweł Zalewski, Member of the European Parliament for the European People’s Party. Main discussion points where the injustice of the current Visa Regime, which has seen cases of young people accepted for studying or volunteer activities in the EU, but rejected by the respective visa authority, and mobility programmes, such as Erasmus Mundus, and their accessibility.

Discussions on Youth Mobility with the Eastern countries inside the European Parliament

Project Manager Alla Resheten says: Young people from the east still cannot feel equal to EU students because of bureaucratic restrictions like visa. In the conference, we've had an opportunity to hear opinion of politicians on this problem, but at the same time we've also presented opinion of civil society. It was great to see an agreement that visa should be abolished, but also that educational mobility for young people from the EaP has been improved within last 2 years.  Hopefully in a in a few years thanks to the joint forces of politicians and civil society my big dream will become a reality for all young people and young people can travel without visa.

AEGEE-Europe has been elected for the Steering Committee of EUCIS-LLL (European Civil Society Platform for Lifelong Learning) for the next three years. Lucille Rieux, our Secretary General, attended the General Assembly in Vilnius, Lithuania and presented our candidature. This means that for the next 3 years AEGEE will be fully part of the advocating process in high levels of education policies and Lifelong Learning in Europe, which is one of the core interests of our organisation. These policies affect education programmes such as Erasmus, Leonardo Da Vinci, Comenius and programmes which we profit from in our daily life.

International Green Talents Competition

Our planet is facing a rapid depletion of natural resources, increasing environmental contamination and major changes in the earth’s atmosphere. As a frontrunner in sustainability research, Germany strongly believes in international cooperation to overcome these global challenges. Especially the creativity and innovativeness of young scientists is called for.

This is why the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is now holding the 5th round of its prestigious “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development”. The competition, under the patronage of Minister Professor Johanna Wanka, annually awards the 25 most outstanding minds worldwide. Hailing from various research disciplines, the winners are honoured for their original solutions for a more sustainable future.

Selected by a high-ranking jury of German experts, the “Green Talents” will be invited to a two-week science forum, touring Germany in the fall of 2013.
