Dear AEGEEans,
In the last days, you have raised your voices and proven the power of a unique cooperation across borders: sharing information about the happenings in dozens of cities in Turkey day by day through mailing lists, blogs and social media, standing up together for the fellow AEGEEans, showing solidarity through demonstrations, posted pictures, lit up candles and supporting messages.
Dear friends who stood up for your rights and democracy in Turkey! Know that the Comité Directeur fully supports your peaceful demonstrations and AEGEE-Europe condemns the violation of human rights and the brutal use of force by the police.
You will find more support from the Network in the newsletter below.
We wish you all the best.
Enjoy also the rest of the newsletter, including the kick-off of Y Vote 2014!

Support for our members in Turkey
Over the weekend, massive protests have started and have led to violent reactions of the police in Turkey, including two confirmed deaths of citizens.
What has started as a sit-in over a reconstruction in Istanbul has become something much bigger: Citizens stand up for democracy and freedom of speech in their country. The happenings have sparked a broad support for our members in Turkey in the Network. The AEGEEan has started a special reporting, collecting news and pictures from the Internet and our members on the spot, trying to keep us updated in what is happening.
The Human Rights Working Group has started an initiative to show our support with our Turkish friends standing up for democracy: Light up a candle for democracy in Turkey.
More than 80 people so far have lit up a candle for democracy in Turkey and shown their solidarity with the peaceful protesters in Istanbul, Adana, Ankara, Izmir and many other cities.
You can also participate: Light a candle, make a picture of yourself with the candle and send it to [log in to unmask]. Human Rights Working Group will upload the photo on their Facebook page.

Les Anciens as Official Alumni Organisation
Last week, Luis travelled to Malta to represent AEGEE-Europe at the General Assembly of Les Anciens. Les Anciens was created to collect very active people from the European Level of AEGEE, to be able to maintain a link with each other and AEGEE.
Today Les Anciens counts hundreds of members from different generations, working in all kind of international institutions and companies.
During this General Assembly, we asked Les Anciens to become the official Alumni organisation of AEGEE-Europe, making it open to all AEGEE members and strengthening the link between the current and the previous generations.
The General Assembly unanimously approved this decision.

LLP Project in the European Parliament
On 4th of June, together with our partners from YEU (Youth for Exchange and Understanding), we hosted a Round Table discussion in the European Parliament, hosted by MEP Marian Harking from the ALDE Group, to present to the different stakeholders our new project: "Certification of Competences of Youth Workers in Europe", cofunded by the LLP Project of the European Union.
The projects aims at developing a universal recognition of the competences and skills that young people gain in and through youth work.
We counted with the presence of the European Commission, the European Youth Forum and other youth NGOs such as ESN, JADE, ELSA, WOSM, MIJARC, EEE-YFU and others.
During the event we presented the aims and objectives of the project and had a fruitful discussion on the processes of validation of competences obtained in the youth field when working in youth NGOs and the recognition of validation of Non Formal Education (NFE).

When talking about sustainability in AEGEE
What do AEGEE members understand when talking about sustainability? Where did they learn about this? And how would they like AEGEE to be involved with this topic? Finding out the answers to these questions was the aim of the survey on sustainability which was completed by almost 120 people from over 60 locals all around the network. Both multiple choice and qualitative answers were analysed and quantified, and will serve as input for AEGEE’s position paper on sustainability.

A tale of two Young entrepreneurs
Entrepreneur [ˌɒntɹəpɹəˈnɜː] n., a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit. Such says the Oxford Dictionary, but what exactly are these people? And are they only in it for the money? More in general, an entrepreneur is somebody who takes advantage of a gap in the market. These gaps occur because of imperfections of the market (e.g. slow integration of a new technology, a limited number of producers, government intervention,…).
