Welcome to the last edition for this Summer!

Yes, we are going on a summer break and will continue writing news to you in September!

Until then, we hope you enjoy Summer Universities, training opportunities and beach time to relax and come back with full power in the autumn!

But let's not forget before that to report of the exciting two weeks with passed: After 10 years of negotiation, Croatia finally entered the EU. Welcome home!

Also, for the first time, we have a summer course together with Education First for those of you who haven't been accepted to their dream Summer University. Enjoy your summer and improve your business knowledge at the same time!

Also, SU organisers are getting ready for a stressful, but rewarding 2 weeks with their participants! Enjoy!

And Brussels never rests: Before you pack your suitcases, we will need your input for the Planning survey and the Impact Survey.

Thanks, and enjoy your read!

News from AEGEE

AEGEEans welcome Croatia

This Monday, Croatia became the 28th member state of the European Union. This was a reason to celebrate for AEGEEans.
From 24th-26th of June, many AEGEEans travelled to the EU Youth Conference “Croatia in the EU: Strengthening ties in youth cooperation", of which AEGEE-Europe and AEGEE-Zagreb were partners. Together with representatives of the European Commission and Croatian politicians, but more importantly with representatives from Croatian youth organisations, they discussed the benefits and concerns of Croatian youth concerning the EU accession, but also created their own positive messages welcoming Croatia. AEGEEans on the panel and around left a lasting positive impression on the participants of the conference. It was a great opportunity to witness history closely. We wish all the best to Croatia! Welcome home!

A very AEGEE Summer

Exam periods have finished for most of us, universities are coming to an end, summer is here (ok, exclude from this statement Netherlands, UK and Belgium) and it's time for... yes, Summer Universities! Out of the 78 this year, one has already finished, and 7 are currently running.
We wish you a wonderful summer and unforgettable experiences!

Concluding the Identity Process

While for some of us the summer has already started, a brave bunch of AEGEEans will gather from 11th-14th of July in Brussels and together with the CD rewrite AEGEE's Identity. 19 people will work for 3 days to evaluate all the conclusions from the two Identity surveys and construct AEGEE's identity to one which reflects better who we are and what we stand for. The results will be shared with you for feedback before presenting them to Agora Zaragoza for approval. Thanks to your contribution, a lot of great ideas came up. Stay tuned for the result!

Contribute to the new Strategic Plan!

We are currently in the process of creating the new Strategic Plan for the years 2014-2017, which will give the main Strategic Priorities AEGEE will work on during these year. For this survey, your input is still needed until 10th of Julyhttp://goo.gl/Mf9tr.
You can also still participate in the Planning Meeting Genova (see the open call in the events section above). Don't miss this chance to decide what you would like to see AEGEE work on in the next years!

What kind of Impact do we stand for?

As you have probably seen, a couple of days ago, we launched the AEGEE Impact Survey. For the first time in the history of AEGEE, we want to measure what kind of impact we actually have on our members.

Please contribute and help us to gather as many answers as possible!

You can not only win great prizes (among then an InterRail ticket for a 22-days trip first class), but it will also help you reflect on your development and can give a good impression on the impact your local has in the end.

It is especially important that the survey reaches Alumni and former members, so please make sure to also forward it to them!
Thank you!

Lobbying with AEGEE – 24h in the life of a Policy Officer

The work of a Policy Officer involves a lot of reading — lengthy study and survey reports, lofty European Commission publications, and repetitive online discussions — but every now and then something more exciting comes along as well. One of those moments was the first lobbying meeting of the Dutch Youth Council on Education for sustainability, followed the next day by a busy policy debate at the European Parliament on Entrepreneurship skills. A brief account of 24h in the life of a Policy Officer…

AEGEE present at the Regional Youth Forum in Istanbul organized by UNFPA and UNECE

While hundreds of people were gathered in Istanbul’s Gezi Park – Taksim’s last remaining public park, fighting for their present day, in a neighboring district 40 young activists from diverse countries were taking part in a much less dangerous but still very important meeting aimed at building a more decent life for youth in the future.

‘THIRSTY?’ – ‘NOT YET…’ (Climate Change and Water Availability)

Water means life. Life begun IN water and no known living thing can function without it. From the smallest to the biggest organism, the simpler to the most complex; and in between, us. GOOD NEWS: 3/4 parts of the Globe are covered by water. BAD NEWS: only 2.5% of it is fresh water, and only 0.007% of the total amount is accessible to human use.
