LUIS ALVARADO MARTINEZ IS OUR YOUNG EUROPEAN OF THE YEAR 2014 

Luis Alvarado Martinez, born 17/08/1989 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, is being honoured as the Young European of the Year 2014. Luis has completed his studies at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) and Université Jean Moulin Lyon III (Lyon, France) in Translation & Interpreting for Spanish, English, French and Italian.

Network Commission Meeting in Budapest

The meeting of the Network Commission after each Agora is their most important reunion. Between 26th and 29th of June they have gathered again in Budapest in order to discuss the most important matters related to the Network and to their work. The weekend was not only about meetings, but they also received trainings from Maartje Natrop who represented The Academy. After these fruitful and hardworking days and a month-long knowledge transfer period, everyone is ready to serve and protect the Network!
 

Democracy in Practice

AEGEE's new project is called Democracy in Practice. An initiative born from the Human Rights Working Group several months ago, it got a boost of motivation during a Training for Trainers in Human RightsEducation, organised by the Council of Europe. The project already has a solid team and a list of locals willing to host the different training courses in democratic participation and human rights.

“Never Stop Dreaming”: The Story Behind AgorAsturias 2015

The whole plenary hall of Spring Agora Patra muted all of a sudden once the big news was announced: the first two Statutory events of 2015 will be both held in Spain. The city of Burgos will host the newly named European Planning Meeting, and the Spring Agora 2015 will be hosted by AEGEE-Oviedo in the city of Gijón.

Introducing our new Comité Directeur

After two years with the same Comité Directeur, the Agora elected on the 3rd of May the six people who are going to live in the CD house and work for the association for the next 12 months. Paul Smits (AEGEE-Enschede), Antonija Parat (AEGEE-Zadar), Aleksandra “Ola” Kluczka (AEGEE-Kraków), Holger Shmitt (AEGEE-Berlin), Ivan Bielik (AEGEE-Brno) and Mayri Tiido (AEGEE-Tartu) are our new Board of Directors.

AEGEE-Madrid Brings Renove Back to its roots

Renove is a common term for members of La Nave, the nickname for the locals in France, Spain, Portugal and AEGEE-Brussels/Bruxelles. This year the 4th edition of Renove will be hosted, bringing back the event to where it originally started, namely in a small village close to Madrid.

Now that the Comité Directeur 2014 – 2015 has been elected and was already introduced to you, it’s time for the Comité Directeur 2012 – 2014 to make new plans for their future. The AEGEEan spoke to Luis, Lucille, Anna, Miguel, Pavel, Kathrin, Beáta and Pavel to ask about these plans, but also to give them a chance to reflect on their time spent in Brussels.

Beyond AEGEE

How to provide quality internships?

At a time when we mostly hear negative things about internships (exploitation, unpaid and unsafe experiences), it is time to discuss how both young people and employers can actually benefit from them. This idea was behind the setting up of meeting between employers and the European Youth Forum.

On 4th June, the European Youth Forum met six employers to discuss a toolkit for quality internships.

15th University on Youth and Development (Mollina, Spain)

AEGEE-Europe participated in the Preparatory meeting for the 15th edition of the University on Youth and Development, to coordinate with the rest of participant organisations the joint programme and to find synergies for our different activities. The objective is our participants can enjoy a great experience in a global environment.

IEREST Conference "Teaching the intercultural in contexts of student mobility" (Bologna, Italy)

AEGEE-Europe participated in the Conference of the IEREST project providing the point of view of the European students during the different discussions. At the closing round table, AEGEE represented the mobile students and explained our needs in the field of preparation courses that can help us to face the intercutural challenges during our stay abroad.

The 6th Annual International Symposium on University Rankings and Quality Assurance 2014 (Brussels, Belgium)

AEGEE-Europe is one of the student bodies that is supporting the development of the U-Multirank, together with ESU. We were invited by Public Policy Exchange to speak about the role of students in University rankings, along with other speakers such as Mr. Jordi Curell (DG EAC), Prof. Dr. Frank Ziegele (Director at Center for Higher Eduction and project leader at U-Multirank), and Mr. Phil Baty (Editor at Times Higher Education

Model ASEM 2014

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) and the Politecnico di Milano School of Management warmly invite you to participate in Model ASEM 2014. The call for applications is now open until 31 July 2014.

The 150 selected participants will gather in Milan, from 8 -11 October 2014, for a simulation of an intergovernmental summit inspired by the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). They will negotiate, share their vision on Asia-Europe collaboration and build up consensus for a summit declaration on ASEM related issues such as sustainable growth, security and public health.
