TRAINING COURSE: "INTRODUCTION TO ORGANISING INTERNATIONAL YOUTH ACTIVITIES" Date: 18 June - 1 July 2000 Place: European Youth Centre, Strasbourg Deadline (internal): 10 January 2000 Aims of the course: The main aim of this course is to give an introduction to the basic concepts and practices of organising international youth activities, such as seminars, exchanges, camps and training courses. Following the questions of why and how to organise international youth activities, this training course will focus on the process of preparation and encourage reflection on intercultural learning. Contents of the course: The programme will start with an extended period of getting to know eachother and the youth organisations represented. The main part of the course will cover the theoretical and practical aspects of organising international youth activities, as well as skills training: setting objectives, working in a team, communication, preparing a programme, setting and managing budgets, follow-up, etc. Practical exercises covering the various types of activities will enable participants to gain practical experience. Methodology: An experienced prepatory team will establish programme elements that will form the backbone of this training course. The whole course is, however, percieved as a mutual learning situation based on participants' experience in youth work. Great emphasis will be placed on working from and extending this experience. Active participation, group and team work, and learning-by-doing form the basis of this course. Languages: French and English are foreseen as the working languages of the course. Participants profile: Youth workers (members of INGYO's or other youth organisations, institutions or projects) who are, or intend to be, responsible for organising youth activities at European and/or international level. The following are examples of the type of participant for this course: members of an international activity prepatory team, youth exchange organisers or project leaders, etc. In general candidates should: * be aged between 18 and 30 * be actively involved in a youth organisation, preferably in the field of international co-operation or activities, or be preparing to take on responsalilities at an international level * be well informed about their organisation and be prepared to explain its activities to the other participants * be able to work in one of the two working languages of the course - English and French * BE COMMITTED TO ATTEND FOR THE FULL DURATION OF THE COURSE AND BE SUPPORTED BY A SENDING ORGANISATION Enrolment fee, travel and costs of the course: Board and lodging are provided and paid for by the CoE/EC partnership. Travel expenses and visa fees are reimbursed (on presentation of the relevant receipts) according to Youth Directorate rules. An enrolment fee of 350 FF per participant will be deducted from the amount to be reimbursed for travel expenses.
