Europe in the Economic World in 2015
AEGEE discusses economic globalisation

Within the confounds of the most suitable location to discuss economics from a futuristic Euro-global perspective, AEGEE's 'Youth & Globalisation' project went one step further at the World Bank in Paris, where the second of five Study Meetings took place. Research, presentation and opinions were shared between the fifteen young experts, discussing the economic role and future of Europe in an ever-globalising world.

In an opening address to the assembled experts, Mr Pierre Girardier noted that "it is crucial for the youth to think ahead when considering the development of the world."

Looking at the effects of globalisation from a multiple perspective analysis, the young experts drafted future policies to ensure a stabile economy. Boosted by the words of Mr Girardier, "education is an important aspect of ensuring economic stability and growth", they approached the issue of youth in Europe with utmost consideration.

Reacting upon the results reached at the Study Meeting, President Diana Filip of AEGEE Europe noted that "international economically orientated organisations have to start looking at global issues together. Strength in global development lies within a singular channelled effort." The Study Meeting also touched upon the issues of cultural diversity and human rights, relating them to lesser developed regions. "Cultural diversity is richness. But that should never hinder us in pursuit of a world without poverty, hunger and oppression," added Ms Filip.

Culture will be the central issue during the next Study Meeting, to be held in Riga (LV) from 22-24 August.

This Meeting follows the first one held in Bayreuth (D), which dealt with communicational issues. General consensus between the young experts there drew the conclusion that communication will carry a more widespread influence in the globalisation process and must be used to our benefit.

The 'Youth & Globalisation' project encompasses five Study Meetings, each dealing with a specific topic related to globalisation. It is the opportunity for students to discuss how they envisage Europe in the global arena within Communication, Culture, Politics and Civic Society.

The results from these Meetings will be presented at the Joint Study Meeting in Trieste and Udine (I) in October. A final draft will then be presented at the World Youth Summit on Globalisation in Brussels in December.

The Year Plan Project 'Youth & Globalisation' aims to assemble the youth, both on a European and a global perspective, in order to discuss and develop a view of the effect of the continuing globalisation process. AEGEE is an association with more than 18,000 students, spread over 263 antennae in 43 countries.
