18.03.2004 - AEGEE gathers at its statutory event - Spring Planning Meeting

Shaping AEGEE's actions for the coming months
On the 12-14th of March over 200 AEGEE delegates from all over Europe gathered in Wroclaw, Poland, in order to brainstorm and discuss the most crucial fields of action AEGEE is getting involved in during the coming months and to concretize and give impetus to the projects we are undertaking in the nearest future. The meeting in was yet another important step for the development of our association, and was organized under the framework of the THINK EUROPE Planning Meeting format.

"Think Europe planning meeting takes place every Spring and it serves the thematic planning process of the association, contrary to the Action Europe Planning Meeting taking place every Autumn with the aim to assist the implementation of projects and actions"- says Wiebke Hahn, Secretary General of AEGEE-Europe - "there's for sure a lot to think about Europe. The Spring PM gives us the chance to discuss face to face the important issues that streamline the direction AEGEE is going to take during the next year".

Nine workshops were held at the PM in Wroclaw, dealing with different topics of AEGEE members' involvement - beginning with the strategy plan for our actions and Human Resources development, through discussions over the projects concerning human rights (disabilities), the EU and developing countries, relations between enlarging EU and its new neighbours, Islam in Western Europe, European Identity and ending with the workshop on debating techniques - the art of argumentation and self-presentation. The results from the workshops constitute a valuable contribution to the development of AEGEE and creating the streamline for our actions.

The next General Assembly (Agora) is going to take place at the end of April in Ohrid, MKA. This one will assemble almost 1000 AEGEE delegates and the important decisions and project proposals will be discussed and voted upon.

AEGEE is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary and voluntary student associations, operating without being linked to any political party, promoting a unified Europe, cross-border co-operation, communication and integration in academic environment, and at the same time striving to create an open and tolerant society by involving students and young graduates in valuable projects and discussions over the topics of importance for the communities they live in It is represented in 260 university cities, in 42 countries all around Europe and has about 17000 members.
