* AEGEE and the World*
In a month in which the news was dominated by the inauguration of a n*ew
president of the United States*, another *war in Israel *and a *gas conflict
between Ukraine and Russia*, the European Students' Forum organized its
third *Y Vote Convention on the EU and the World*. Y Vote 2009 is a European
wide campaign by AEGEE aiming to involving first time voters in the current
issues of the European political society and encouraging them to cast an
informed vote. Supported by a wide variety of experts, participants of the Y
Vote Convention on the EU and the World discussed about issues as the
economic crisis, Israel and transatlantic relations during seven days.
Now being just a few moments away from the presidential transfer of power in
the United States of America, AEGEE (European Students' Forum) members have
been invited to give their opinions on two different topics moving the
public opinion. Active AEGEE members from Azerbaijan, France, Serbia, Russia
and Switzerland reported us on the state of their countries during the gas
crisis and how the Israeli conflict is influencing their lives.
"Young people are very active with e-mails and on facebook, since public
protests are not allowed on the streets", reports Emin from Baku, Azerbaijan
"We have problems more often, so people are prepared.", says Ivan from Novi
Sad, Serbia, about the lack of gas.
